PET in uterine malignancies

چکیده
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) or integrated PET/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) with F-Fluoro-Deoxy-Glucose (F-FDG) is a functional imaging modality, useful in the characterization of undetermined morphological findings, and in the staging/re-staging of a large number of malignancies. Although its use in uterine malignancies has been poorly investigated, in recent years the employment of this technique has constantly increased. In this review, we evaluate the role of PET (/CT) with FFDG in uterine malignancies (cervical and endometrial cancers as well as uterine sarcomas), underlying its advantages and discussing its limitations. Metabolic and anatomic information given by PET/CT with F-FDG could be useful in the evaluation of local and distant disease involvement at the staging, in the detection of disease recurrence, and in the evaluation of the response after chemotherapy and/or radio-therapy.

Clinical utility of 18F-FDG PET for patients with salivary gland malignancies.
UNLABELLED The clinical utility of 18F-FDG PET in evaluating salivary gland malignancies has not been well defined. We therefore evaluated the utility of 18F-FDG PET in management for patients with salivary gland cancers. METHODS Thirty-four patients with newly diagnosed salivary gland cancers underwent CT and 18F-FDG PET before surgical resection with radiotherapy. The diagnostic accuracies ...

Metastatic tumors to the heart unlike primary cardiac tumors are not rare. Despite its frequency, cardiac metastasis is commonly detected only during autopsy as the symptoms of disseminated metastasis prevail over symptoms caused by cardiac metastasis and hence is overlooked most of the time. Tumors more commonly found metastasizing to the heart are malignancies of lung, breast, esophagus, lymp...
متن کاملClinical Impact of 18F-FDG PET/CT on the Management of Gynecologic Cancers: One Center Experience
Objective(s): We aim to investigate the clinical impact of 18F-FDG PET/CT in managing patients with gynecological malignancies and pelvic or extrapelvic lymph nodes that are of equivocal significance on conventional imaging. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 18F-FDG PET/CT scans of patients with gynecologic tumors who were referred to King Hussein Cancer Center from January 2010 to August 20...
متن کاملA rare case of primary malignant melanoma of cervix with metastasis to inguinal lymph node detected on 18F-FDG PET-CT scan
Primary malignant melanoma of uterine cervix is extremely rare malignancy with very few case published reports. This neoplasm is having poor prognosis, so early diagnosis, staging and treatment is of extreme importance. 18F-FDG PET-CT (18F-labeled fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission computed tomography) scan is an established modality to determine exact extent of disea...
متن کاملAplastic anemia evolving to myelodysplastic syndrome and later to a lymphoproliferative malignancy in a treated case of carcinoma breast: A case report emphasizing the importance of PET-CT in cutaneous T cell lymphoma
Although aplastic anemia (AA) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) are separate entities with different management, distinction between the two can be difficult on morphological basis due to hypocellularity of bone marrow. MDS is one of the serious complications of AA. Karyotyping is definitive in the diagnosis of MDS. Better and robust investigations like 18F-Fluoro-deoxy-Glucose Posi...
